National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is a national organization established to recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of leadership, scholarship, character, and service. Designated high schools hold their own chapters of this prestigious organization.
Interested in membership? Here are some facts...
- Juniors and seniors who have demonstrated academic mastery of their curriculum by earning a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.75 at the completion of the 2nd marking period of the current school year will be eligible to apply to the National Honor Society.
- At the time of application, students must have completed or be currently enrolled in at least 6 advanced, honors, CHS, or Advanced Placement courses. Students must have a cumulative percentage of at least 70% in the advanced, honors, CHS, or Advanced Placement course for it to qualify for the 6-course requirement.
- Students must be actively involved in a minimum of four organized activities, such as sports, clubs, or organized groups or show superior involvement by holding a leadership position in one organized activity. At least one activity must be in something other than athletics. Both community and school-sponsored organizations are eligible.
- At the time of application and during high school, students must have completed a minimum average of at least 15-20 community service hours per school year that are verified by an adult sponsor. (Juniors – total of 40 hours at time of application; Seniors – total of 50)
- Students must have exemplary behavior and discipline records to be considered for membership in the National Honor Society. Suspensions, incidences of academic dishonesty such as cheating or plagiarism, and category 3 or 4 offenses during the current school year will result in an automatic deferral of application. Should students choose to reapply to the National Honor Society the following school year, they will not be penalized for the infractions that resulted in their previous deferral as long as their discipline records remain free of further infractions.
Application Information
Applications are due by Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 4:00 PM. Late of incomplete application will not be considered for membership. All eight sections of the application, to include teacher selection and service hour confirmations, must be turned in by the deadline. Current NHS members do not need to re-apply.
Application can be summited by one of the following ways:
- Digital copy in PDF format to nhs@avonworth.k12.pa.us.
- Hard copy printed and turned in to the high school office.
